Millikin University will celebrate Black History Month by hosting a series of events throughout the month of February.
Nick Cravatta is a second semester junior nursing major at Millikin University. The Sullivan, Ill., native went to Lakeland Community College for the first two years of his college career and then searched for a four-year school to transfer to.
Though Cravatta applied to multiple colleges, once he visited Millikin's campus he knew that the Big Blue community was the place for him.
Anna Harmon, a senior biology and pre-occupational therapy major who's planning to get a master's in registered occupational therapy, gives Millikin University credit for helping her realize her full potential. "My biggest takeaway from Millikin is that I'm capable of so much more than I thought I was," said the Buffalo Grove, Ill., native.
Millikin University has had a long tradition of success when it comes to collecting food items to support the annual WSOY Community Food Drive in Decatur, Ill. The Food Drive helps as many food banks as possible by encouraging the local community to give canned non-perishable goods or monetary donations. Last year, over 1.52 million pounds of food was collected.
During Meg Nowak's senior year of high school her mother gave her invaluable advice that ultimately solidified her decision to attend Millikin University. "Location when choosing a university is important, but it is even more important to choose a university that will have individuals there who will push you and make you an all-around better person," Nowak's mother said.
Millikin University nursing major Brian David has been gaining real-world nursing experience since the moment he stepped on campus his freshman year. While this instantaneous interaction might fear some first-year students, it only solidified David's decision to become a registered nurse (RN).
The best four years of Lexi Leggs' life, she says, have been her years at Millikin University. The Oak Forest, Ill., native has a passion for vocal education and leadership, and praises Millikin for giving her ample opportunities to prepare for her future career path.
