Jacquelynn Ruot always wanted to become a teacher. The senior early childhood education major from Niantic, Ill., hopes to teach preschool after she graduates from Millikin University, and she is taking all the necessary steps to prepare for her career by practicing in a real-world setting.
Millikin University has been awarded a U.S host institution grant to host a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence during the 2018-2019 academic year. Millikin will host a public health scholar from Namibia or Botswana to increase student and faculty knowledge and understanding of public health issues and policy in sub-Saharan Africa.
Millikin University women's basketball players partnered with the Illinois Wesleyan University women's basketball team to host a Special Olympics skills demonstration and 5-on-5 exhibition game on Jan. 17 at Millikin's Griswold Center that featured teams from Decatur, Lincoln, and Taylorville, Ill.
Following the event, Millikin and Illinois Wesleyan squared off in a CCIW matchup in the Griswold Center.
Justin John Moniz, coordinator of vocal studies in Millikin University's School of Music, has been awarded the 2017-18 American Prize in Vocal Performance.
"With all the hype about Blue Brew coffee shop, the most frequent question I've been getting is, 'What is a student-run venture?' said Julie Shields, director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at Millikin University.
2017 has been a year of new momentum at Millikin University. In August, students arrived on campus to see Millikin transformed by the presence of the University Commons.
RJ Podeschi, assistant professor of information systems at Millikin University, was recently awarded the Love of Learning Award worth $500 presented by Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Podeschi is one of 100 recipients nationwide to receive the award.
