Classes are underway for the fall 2021 semester at Millikin University. The start of a new academic year is always a special time at Millikin, with new students and faculty, new relationships, new scholarship and engagement beginning again after the summer months.

New season to feature high-profile guest artists and collaborations

Millikin University's Kirkland Fine Arts Center is pleased to announce its 2021-22 Performing Arts Season. For over 50 years, Kirkland Fine Arts Center has been the place to be for live performing arts for Decatur, Ill., and the surrounding area.

Millikin celebrates one year with newest president

This July, Millikin University celebrates one year with its newest president, Dr. Jim Reynolds. To mark this special occasion and to help us know him even better, President Reynolds agreed to answer all the questions that we wanted to ask this past year. Our congratulations to President Reynolds for one year with Millikin University. We look forward to many more to come.

Collection of books and materials centered on Millikin Long-Vanderburg Scholars Program

Millikin University's Provost of seven years, Dr. Jeffery Aper, retired in June of 2021, but not without leaving the University with a resource that will be used for years to come. Upon Dr. Aper's retirement, a library collection of titles centered around the theme of equity and justice will be created, aptly named the Dr. Jeffery Aper Equity & Justice Library Collection.

By definition, a lobbyist helps influence public opinion and the opinions of legislators as well as creating political support for certain initiatives. Millikin University graduate Nash Oldenettel is determined to take his career in this particular direction.

Millikin University's School of Education creates a community of learners and learning environments that demonstrate the value of active learning. One of the important aspects of the School of Education's curriculum is the co-teaching model for all teacher candidates during the student teaching experience.

Commencement has a very special and symbolic significance. By definition, it means initiation, inception, or a time when something begins, and for the Millikin University graduating Class of 2021, it meant taking the next step.

Memorial for Arvid W. Adell

September 30, 1935 - May 13, 2021

Roscoe, Illinois

Arvid Adell was born on September 30, 1935 and passed away on May 13, 2021.

Arvid was the chairman of the Philosophy Department at Millikin University where he coached basketball and gold before his full retirement in 2013 and the Pastor of Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in Decatur, IL until 2000.

Millikin and other institutions of higher learning were compelled to change almost everything they do because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and now the spring 2021 semester has wrapped up and commencement is on the horizon.
