Case Isolation

In the event of a residential student becoming a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case, temporary isolation spaces on campus will be utilized. When cases are at a high level, off-campus locations may be used. Family or guardian pick up of residential students will be expected within 24 hours of notification, if home isolation is desired. Student Affairs will ensure that meals and other necessities are dropped off to on-campus isolation housing. They will also coordinate continued curriculum delivery if the student is able.

Confirmed cases or highly probable cases impacting a non-residential student or employee will be instructed to isolate at home. This isolation will follow CDC/IDPH/MCHD guidelines. Millikin University community members who test positive must isolate for at least 5 days. Individuals can now be released from isolation after 5 days AS LONG AS symptoms are resolving, and the individual is fever-free for at least 24 hours. Individuals must continue to wear a mask at all times when around others for an additional 5 days. No re-test at day 5 is necessary.

Cases are required to follow all guidance from MCHD and/or their medical provider as it relates to return to work or class recommendation. Student Affairs or Human Resources will check in with all isolation cases every other day.

Contact Quarantine

Direct contacts of confirmed or highly probable cases will be instructed by MCHD and campus contact tracing personnel to enter quarantine. Provided they remain asymptomatic, most quarantined cases will be allowed to return to work or classes after their quarantine time frame is completed.

Vaccinated individuals (defined as boosted or within 6 months of last vaccination - 2 months for Johnson & Johnson) may test out of quarantine at Day 5 with a negative test. Unvaccinated individuals will continue to quarantine for a full 10 days. Performance majors, Athletics and certain co-curricular experiences may require additional COVID related requirements. Check with your program director for more details.

For residential students and residential employees, this quarantine will be arranged to occur on campus if they so choose. Off-campus students and employees living off-campus will quarantine at home. Quarantined individuals must be masked at all times around roommates and must limit travel to essential needs only. Foot and meals may be picked up by the individual.

Student Affairs will also work with faculty to ensure continued curriculum delivery and exemptions from any in-person lab requirements.

Human Resources will help coordinate work from home guidelines for employees, if possible. While in quarantine, the expectation is that community members will follow very strict social distancing guidelines, including mask-wearing indoors and outdoors, avoid shared spaces such as laundry rooms, and only travel if necessary.
