I lived in Decatur at the time and MU was close.
What are some of your accomplishments since graduating from Millikin?
I started the business that I currently run. We have nearly 400 employees. [In 2015, Kevin Mathews was the recipient of the Tabor School of Business Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award for “exemplifying the best in entrepreneurial thought and action.”]
When not supporting the Big Blue, what is your favorite thing to do?
Boating, church activities, spending time with family.
Who is your most memorable MU professor or staff member and why?
Sharon Alpi helped start my desire to be an entrepreneur. [Now serving MU as a part-time consultant, Sharon Alpi founded Millikin’s Center for Entrepreneurship in the Tabor School of Business. She retired as director of the Center for Entrepreneurship in 2015 after 25 years of service to Millikin.]
What is your most memorable MU experience?
Passing Dr. Liberatore’s class. [Dr. Anthony Liberatore is an associate professor in the Tabor School of Business and is director of Millikin’s MBA program.]
What is one concept you learned at Millikin that you use regularly?
Being approachable. Millikin’s culture truly promotes the desire for every student to achieve success. I remember the faculty and staff were approachable for questions, guidance and direction. It felt like a partnership.
What advice do you give to current Millikin students about preparing for life after graduation?
Stay in college mode. Homework doesn’t stop because you graduated.
Anything else you would like to share with the Millikin community?
I have fond, fun memories of my time at Millikin. I truly feel that I received a valuable education.
