One of the greatest attributes of the Millikin History Department is that we are so close-knit. The intimacy of our classes provided a great setting to share ideas and opinions regarding all types of social science.
Although Millikin’s History Department is small, I was able to experience an incredible variety of teaching styles, course topics, discussions, and debates. I was exposed to several aspects of the realm of history that I never thought possible
Elizabeth Baugher Bangtson ’07 has a unique Millikin story to tell as a non-traditional student. After moving to Decatur from Minnesota, Beth took a job at Millikin, serving the University in the Business Office and Human Resources. After working at Millikin for a few years, she enrolled in the University’s PACE program, now known as Flexible Learning, and completed her degree while working full-time.
I originally came to Millikin University to become a part of its renowned music program. As a freshman music business major, I was unaware that the music program was not the only excellent course of study at Millikin. My sophomore year, I changed my major to secondary education/social sciences.
Since her piano debut with the Alton Symphony Orchestra, Han-Yuan has performed with the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra, Sangamon Valley Youth Orchestra, String Arts Ensemble, and Alton Symphony Orchestra. Han-Yuan has also attended many music festivals including her most recent trip to the European American Music Alliance program in Paris, France at the Ecole Normale de Musique, where she studied with Dr. Philip Lasser (Juilliard School) and Dr. Benjamin Boyle.

After earning his B.F.A. from Millikin, Michael went on to earn an M.F.A. in Illustration from Savannah College of Art & Design. Now owner of a freelance design business, Michael has worked as designer, illustrator, and production artist. His exhibitions have been featured at the Poetter and Morris Galleries at Savannah College as well as at the Morgan Avenue Gallery in Brooklyn, NY and the Moon River Brewing Company in Savannah, GA. Michael recently had two illustrations accepted into
