John “The Penguin” Bingham ’70 of Willow Springs, Ill., is recipient of the Alumni Merit Award for his dedication to and passion for running and encouraging individuals of all ages and skill levels to find enjoyment in a healthier lifestyle.

The late R. Michael Campbell ’67 and M. Susan Campbell ’68 are co-recipients of the 2016 Alumnus of the Year award, the highest alumni award presented by the university.

My Writing Life

I always loved books and the words they contained. In high school, I found a passion in reading and writing. I especially liked starting a theme paper with a long, unexpected sentence that exploded with “That…”. The resulting long, dependent clause was the subject of the sentence that would stand on stilts when I diagrammed it—just for fun.

Gary Workman ’65 is the recipient of the 2018 Alumnus of the Year award, the highest alumni award presented by the University. A true and faithful friend of Millikin, Workman has shown his devotion to the University through many years of service and financial support.

After graduating from Silver Cross Hospital School of Nursing (cum laude) I was encouraged by the Silver Cross faculty to enroll in college and pursue a degree in education (specifically with the intention of teaching nursing).
