Blossom Maton Winslow ObituaryMemorial for Blossom Maton Winslow ’65

Blossom Maton Winslow, age 95, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away on September 27, 2018 at Oak Crest Retirement Center, where she had been a resident for 11 years. Her Christian life was as beautiful as the flowers that she grew up with, and her loving influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

The funeral service will be held Monday, October 1, 2018 at 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church of DeKalb. Rev. Jonathan Crail will be officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 9:30 am at the church. Burial will follow the funeral and will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, Illinois.

Blossom was born in Hillsboro, Illinois on March 15, 1923. She graduated from Pana High School, Pana, Illinois, and continued on to receive a degree in elementary education and music from Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois. She taught for a short time in Litchfield and then in the Taylorville School District for 25 years.

Blossom was married to Leslie Everett Winslow on June 15, 1947. They were married 591/2 years. This union was blessed with three children, eight grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Leslie preceded her in death on November 24, 2006.

Throughout her life, Blossom was a lover of music. A gifted pianist, she taught, directed choirs and musical productions, played for church services, and accompanied many soloists throughout her years. In addition to music, traveling with her husband in their Airstream trailer was a source of enjoyment in retirement. She also was an accomplished European hooker and needle pointer. Her collections of owls, paperweights, iron trivets and salt dips are well-known among the residents at Oak Crest, as Blossom loved to share the history of her collections. Blossom was a lifelong member of the Order of Eastern Star and White Shrine, a volunteer for many activities at Oak Crest, and an active member of DeKalb United Methodist Church, where she served as secretary of her circle, played in the bell choir, sang in the chancel choir, and faithfully attended the Sermon Builders group.

Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, Bruce (Janet) Winslow of Maple Park, Illinois, Darcy (James) Wright of Gillette, Wyoming, and Jon Winslow, of Belleville, IL; grandchildren, Eva (Mark) Schwartz of Round Lake Heights, Illinois, Kirby (Kevin) Fricano of Yorkville, Illinois, Abel Greenwald of Chicago, Illinois, Stacy Winslow of Los Angeles, CA, Geoffrey Winslow of Seattle, WA, Lesley Winslow of Phoenix, AZ, Dan (Melanie) Winslow of Glendale Heights, IL, and Tim Winslow of Chicago, IL.
