Memorial for Raymond Edmund “Ebby” Scheer ’38
Raymond Edmund (Ebby) Scheer,102, of Tallahassee, died January 25, 2019 after a full and fruitful life. Ebby was born in Lacon, IL to Raymond A. Scheer and Millie Kennedy Scheer. He graduated from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois in 1938, and began his high school teaching career in Illiopolis, IL. Ebby married his college sweetheart, Dorothy Henderson in 1938, and after her death married the second love of his life, Kathleen Rolph Boyd in 1959. Ebby served as Executive Officer on the USS LST 861 in World War II's Pacific Theater. Ebby returned to teaching in Florida 1965, and taught science at Leesburg High School until retiring in 1981. Ebby and Kathleen moved to Tallahassee in 1987 to be close to their family. They were founding members of Tallahassee's Christ Presbyterian Church, with Ebby serving as deacon and elder. Following Kathleen's death in 2014, Ebby became a resident of Westminster Oaks. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Dee Scheer. Ebby is survived by his children Kathy Atkins-Gunter (Bill), Linda Huey, Everett Boyd (Valorie) and Sandy Scheer, all of Tallahassee, and Harris Boyd (Debi) of Roswell, GA, 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. A family visitation will be held at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 1737 Riggins Road, on Tuesday, January 29, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Burial at the National Veterans Cemetery in Tallahassee will be held at a later date.
