Kimberly Lawrence Richter Memorial for Kimberly Lawrence Richter ’04

Kimberly Lawrence Richter, 59, of Decatur, Illinois passed on from this life to be with the Lord on Friday, October 26th, 2018. She was born in Decatur to Gerald and Shirley Lawrence on August 5, 1959. Kim leaves behind her loving husband Terry, sister Becky Collins (Steve), brothers Jr (Elaine) Lawrence, Tony (Bonnie) Lawrence, and brother Doug Lawrence, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, mother-in-law Judy, sister-in-law Darlene, nephew Brian, several aunts and cousins.

Memorial service will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 17 at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Burial will be in Northfork Cemetery, Decatur, IL

Kim became sick with dermatamyositis as a sophomore in high school at Eisenhower where she was involved in several sports including track, basketball and tennis. She was not able to return to school but did graduate with her class in 1977 with the assistance of her home school tutor Linda Hughes. Coach John Alexander and Shirley Kistler were her favorite teachers and always held a special place in her heart.

After graduation Kim went to the University of Illinois in Champaign for 1 ½ years and returned home to do volunteer work at St. Mary’s Hospital where she had previously volunteered as a candy striper during high school. Kim began her work career at Federal Kemper Insurance Company thanks to the persistence of her dad (he insisted that with all the volunteer work she was doing she was able to work) and the assistance of the Office of Rehabilitation as well as her wonderful boss Louise who showed great faith in her. She worked there until it closed and held several other jobs after that included Horance Mann Insurance Co., Decatur Office Systems, SAIL, and private work as a care giver. In 2000 when Kim was 40 she returned to school at Millikin University and received her Bachelor’s Degree in 2004. Her desire to complete a degree finally achieved.

She married her husband Terry on October 15, 1994. Kim was so blessed to have all the years God gave her with Terry and her family especially her mom and dad. Kim was a great animal lover. She and Terry shared their lives with their dogs Biscuit and Daisy and cat Puddin. One of her favorite things to do was going on walks with them. She also loved to help people and was a long time volunteer for Faith in Action. Kim also enjoyed gardening.

Her favorite season was spring and she looked forward to all the plants she would have Terry plant for her and managed to plant a few herself.

The three things Kim loved most in life were the Lord, her family, and friends.  They meant everything to her. Her greatest desire was for them to come to know the Lord’s amazing love.

Condolences and memories may be shared with the family in care of Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes at
