Memorial for Francis “Frank” Rice ’61
Decatur – Francis (Frank) L. Rice, 80, of Decatur, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was born October 2, 1938 in Decatur the son of Hannon and Helen Rice. Upon graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany. It was there he met his future wife, Doris (Arnold) Rice. Frank and Doris were married on February 22, 1964 in Decatur. Together they built a home and family which was his pride and joy. Frank worked for AT&T. He attended Millikin University to further his education. He took great pride in his military service, career and his education.
Frank was a proud and patriotic veteran and had a love of learning. He enjoyed science, astronomy, nature, current events, history and politics. He had a lifetime love of dogs, especially Corgis. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dogs.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Doris (Arnold) Rice; loyal Corgi companion, Drac; granddaughter, Savannah Kathryn Ann Rice and his parents, Hannon and Helen Rice.
Surviving are his sons: Thomas (Sarah) Rice and Daniel (Sue) Rice of Decatur; brother, Howard Rice of Decatur.
Funeral service will be 2 pm Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. There will be no visitation. Private burial will take place at Fairlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Make A Wish Foundation, Give Kids The World, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Homeward Bound Animal Shelter.
