Memorial for Dorothy Jean Cornwell Parker ’50
Dorothy Jean Parker peacefully passed from this life on October 10, 2018 while attended by her loving family; she was 90 years old.
She was born on July 21, 1928 to Guy and Gladys Cornwell in Taylorville, Illinois. She was married to Jack Parker, the love of her life, from 1951 until his death in 2016.
She is survived by her daughters, Joan Delcamp (Rex) of St. Petersburg, Florida and Jane Jones (Steve) of Sullivan, Missouri; two grandsons, Jesse Delcamp (Meredith) and Jack Delcamp (Christy) of St. Petersburg, Florida; and four great grandchildren, Nate, Luke, Emma and Maxine Delcamp.
Jean was blessed with boundless strength, energy and a ready smile for all of her family and those fortunate enough to have known her. She and her husband were an active part of Westminster Shores in St. Petersburg, Florida, and her sense of humor and love of puns brightened the lives of those around her.
Jean graduated from Taylorville High School as a member of the class of 1946. She received her degree in teaching from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, and spent many years as an elementary school teacher in Naperville, Illinois where she and her husband raised their family. She enjoyed many activities in Naperville and was active in Knox Presbyterian Church, the local AAUW chapter, YMCA LiveWires, Naper School retirees, and was a volunteer at the DuPage County Children’s Museum. Her love of education and learning touched the lives of many youngsters throughout the years, and her legacy will live on through them, her loving family and her many dear friends.
A memorial service was held on October 14 in the chapel at Westminster Shores with a wonderful celebration of life reception for family and all her friends immediately following in the Gallery at the Shores.
Both Jean and Jack were devoted and dedicated animal lovers and in lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Naperville ADOPT Pet Shelter, in the name of Dorothy Jean Parker.
