Memorial for Michael Nelson ’05
Michael Nelson, 34, of Chicago, formerly of Fillmore, died Sunday, July 22, 2018, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. at Grace Fellowship Church in Fillmore. A memorial service will immediately follow. A fellowship meal for family and friends will follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
Mr. Nelson was born Dec. 4, 1983, in Hillsboro, to Bob and Bonnie Nelson, and they survive in Fillmore.
A graduate of Nokomis High School, he attended Millikin University and Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, where he studied mechanical engineering.
He worked at United Parcel Service and Guitar Center stores, all in St. Louis, MO, and in the Chicago area as an operation manager. He was pursuing his dream job at Switchfast Technologies in Chicago as an IT support technician at the time of his passing.
Mr. Nelson enjoyed working with computers and other technology. He especially enjoyed videos and pictures of his beloved niece, Sylvie. He fought a courageous three-year battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. A caring and generous person, he demonstrated that by donating his body for medical research to help find a cure.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sisters, Angela Nelson (husband Brad) Baker, Rebekah Nelson (husband Martin) Ruppert and Amy Nelson, all of St. Louis, MO; his niece, Sylvie Baker of St. Louis, MO; and his grandparents, Bob and Ruth McDonald and Margaret Nelson, all of Fillmore.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Howard Nelson of Fillmore.
