Memorial for Melvin Karch ’59
DECATUR -- Melvin Aaron Karch, 79, of Hutto, TX, passed away peacefully at home on July 10, 2017, 6:30 P.M., surrounded by his wife and children.
Mel was born to Lois (Davis) and Krekel Karch in Mt. Vernon, Illinois on July 17, 1937. He attended Stephen Decatur High School, Millikin University, and served the Army Reserves six years. He married Linda Marie Boyd of Decatur in 1957, and raised three children. He worked for Karch Construction Company, was an active member of First Christian Church, then Grace United Methodist Church. He loved basketball, tennis, pheasant hunting, and time with friends and family. He established a business in Dallas, then moved to Austin near his children, and when retired, worked for The Conservatory at Wells Branch. There he met, then married Jeanne (Richer) Boucher in November, 2013. Mel had a full life, was so greatly loved, and will be forever missed.
Mel is survived by his wife Jeanne Richer (Boucher) Karch of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, children Melinda (Don) McGee, Marc (Hiroko Fukuhara) Karch, Sharon (John Hutchinson) Schmidt, grandchildren Audrey (Sharon) Cravotta, Ian (Sharon) Schmidt, Morgan (Marc) Karch, of Austin, Texas area, step-daughters Susan Brinza, Dianne Boucher, and step-grandchildren; nieces and nephews Mike (Linda) Oyler, Dianna (Bill) Heyer, Teal (Buddy) Walker, and Laura Tucker, of Decatur, and many grand-nephews and nieces. Mel was preceded in death by his parents Lois (Davis) and Krekel Karch, sister Rita L. Oyler, brother-in-law Kent Oyler, and grandson Aaron Karch.
Funeral services are planned for July 14th with 9 AM visitation, 10 AM services at Beck Funeral Home, 15709 Ranch Road 620, Austin, Texas. Committal service will be at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to American Cancer Society.
