Memorial for Joanne Allsup Gustin ’72
DECATUR -- Joanne Allsup Gustin, 95, of Saint Charles, Missouri, formerly of Decatur, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2018. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 1:00pm in the Flewelling Chapel at Central Christian Church in Decatur, IL with the visitation beginning at 11:30am at the church. Burial will be in Point Pleasant Cemetery in Long Creek. Memorials in Joanne's name may be made to Central Christian Church of Decatur (youth outreach fund).
Joanne was born on May 4, 1923 in Kansas City, the daughter of Arch and Velma (Tozer) Allsup. She married W. Dale Gustin on Christmas Eve 1944 in Decatur and they spent 62 glorious years together. Joanne and Dale loved traveling together and cherished time spent with family. Dale preceded her in death in 2006.
Joanne graduated from Decatur High School in 1941 and attended Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She taught first grade at Niantic-Harristown school for ten years while completing her teaching degree from Millikin University night school. Later in life, she thoroughly enjoyed designing and sewing a variety of crafts, several of which she won awards.
Joanne was a life member of Central Christian Church and was awarded Elder Emeritus in 2013 for her faithful service to the church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and a caring friend to all. She truly leaves a legacy of love and caring to everyone in her life.
Surviving are one daughter, Dianne (Steve) Kirtley of Decatur, IL, one son Mark Gustin (Marilyn) of Saint Charles, Missouri, 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale, daughter Nanette, grandson Edward James, granddaughter Emily, two sisters and one brother.
