Memorial for Mary Ann Stenzel Fassett ’54
Mary Ann Fassett, longtime resident of Roseland and Fairfield, N.J., died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018, at 86 after a short illness.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Saint Peter's Church in Essex Fells. Condolences and memories may be shared at shookfarmer.com.
Mary was born and raised in Belleville, Ill., the older of two daughters of Eugene and Ethel Stenzel. She graduated from Millikin University, married Richard Fassett, and relocated to East Orange, N.J., in whose school system Richard worked for over 30 years as director of special education. Richard and Mary raised three children in Roseland, where they lived for over 30 years and were actively involved in civic and charitable ventures. Prior to retirement, Mary worked for Prudential and as a substitute teacher and an assistant librarian for over 15 years. After retirement, she and Richard relocated to Fairfield, N.J., traveled extensively, and helped raise their seven grandchildren. Richard passed in 2010 and Mary remained active in community affairs in and around Fairfield.
Mary was predeceased by Richard and their first-born child, Ricky, who died in infancy. She is survived by her three children, David and his wife, Gina, Mary Jean, and Kathleen and her husband, Deon; her seven grandchildren, Zachary, Ryan, Caroline, Kevin, Timothy, Kate, and Sarah, and sister, Kathleen Bass of Logansport, Ind., and her family.
