Belva was born Sept. 1, 1922, in rural Gays. Her parents were John Rupert Curry and Gertrude Belva Davis Curry (died in 1923, at age 36, when Belva was 6 months old). She was raised by various live-in "housekeepers" until 1929, when her father married Della Gibbons Curry. (Belva always talked about her wonderful stepmother.)
Her sisters were Edith Caroline Curry and Elizabeth Faye Cooper, who both preceded her in death.
She was married to E.M. "Turk" Edwards on Aug. 24, 1943, in Decatur. He passed away on Dec. 11, 2008.
Surviving are their daughters, Carol S. Radford (Verlan) of St. Clair, Mo., and Nancy L. Bode (Steve) of Tolono; and granddaughter, Gillan Vollrath of Champaign.
Belva graduated from the Neoga Township High School and attended Millikin University in Decatur. Secretarial science was her interest; she worked for 11 years for the Baker's Life Insurance Co. (now Principal Life Insurance) in Decatur. She retired from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Illinois in 1990 after 26 years.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be given to the Champaign County Humane Society.
