Donald Wayne Collins
DECATUR -- Donald Wayne Collins, 77, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2017.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur, IL, with visitation Monday, October 16, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown, IL. Memorials may be made to Antioch Christian Church or American Heart Association.
Wayne was born February 15, 1940, in Decatur, the son of Donald and Doris (Schaniel) Collins. He married Barbara M. Rickey on September 3, 1961 in Decatur.
Wayne graduated from MacArthur High School in 1958 and Millikin University in 1963. He had been a member of First Christian Church since 1961, had served as an Elder and two years as Board Chairman, and was in the Searchers Sunday School Class. Wayne worked for Lindsay-Schaub, GE, CBQ, and Wagner Castings (Intermet) until they closed. His retirement job was in the mailroom at the Herald & Review.
Wayne was a Boy Scout for 67 years, starting as a Cub Scout. He worked at Camp Robert Faries and later served in various leadership roles. He was also involved in FCC’s Youth Group when his children were teenagers. Wayne was a race car fan, especially NASCAR. He liked history, both reading it and writing about it. He had recently been attending Antioch Christian Church and especially enjoyed his Sunday School class. Wayne got his first toy train when he was 10 months old, had loved trains all his life, and this summer he drove the train at Scovill Zoo.
He is survived by his wife Barbara of 56 years; daughter Cheryl Collins of Bloomington; son David (Kathy) Collins of Muscatine, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
