Memorial for James Burdick ’56
DECATUR -- James L. Burdick, 84, of Decatur, IL was taken into the loving arms of his Lord & Savior at 4:48 pm, Sunday, March 24, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Celebration of Life services will be held on Friday, March 29, 2019 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Visitation begins at 3:30pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 5:00pm. The family will host friends for a time of remembrance immediately after the service at the church. Jim was born May 8, 1934 in Decatur, IL the son of Louis H. and Emma C. (Ponewash) Burdick. He graduated in 1958 from Millikin University with a BS degree in Engineering and married Florence “Flo” Mannhalter on January 29, 1965. As a lifelong entrepreneur, Jim was accompanied by Flo as they endeavored to build their future. Taking on many roles in the grain aeration & elevator industry, and with Flo's assistance, Jim went on to found Burdick Aeration and Electronics Corporation. Later in his career he obtained Real Estate Brokers licenses for both Illinois and Florida. While residing in Florida he and Flo founded the Treasure Coast Truss Company, and later took ownership of Peters Machine Inc in Decatur. Jim was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church; serving the work of God's church in Stewardship, Capital Fundraising, Lay Ministries, Small Group Ministries, and Trustee of St. Pauls Foundation.
Surviving are his wife, Flo of Decatur; sons: Greg Burdick (Sherry) of Houston, Brad Burdick of Denver; grandchildren: Michael Burdick (Hannah) of Chicago, Anne Marie Burdick of Dallas; and Jim’s special canine companion, "Dude". Also surviving are Sister-In-Law Helen L. Burdick, and eleven nieces/nephews, and twenty three grand-nieces/nephews, and many special friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and his son David.
