Memorial for Virginia Barrow ’39

Virginia Barrow, age 96, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at Odd Fellow Rebekah Home, Mattoon, IL, at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, September 13, 2012.

Virginia was born April 14, 1916, in Moultrie County, near Gays, IL, to Henry and Anna (Hortenstine) Fleenor. She married Cecil Raymond Barrow on June 16, 1940. Mrs. Barrow was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church of Mattoon, IL where she was a dedicated organist for over 25 years, and for Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home, which she particularly enjoyed for over 45 years. She also taught piano lessons to a large class of students for many years. She studied for four years and graduated from Millikin University, Decatur, IL. She enjoyed creating Christmas cards by hand for relatives and close friends. She loved painting as well as decorating her home. Tending to her garden and canning her produce were also just a couple of her favorite things to do.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Ann Barrow, of Mattoon, IL; two nieces, Alice Deininger and her husband Warren of Decatur, IL, and Rita Getz and her husband Jim of McHenry, IL; her very close friend, Bruce Daily and his wife Jo of Mattoon, IL.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters: her twin sister Genevieve Daily, as well as Margaret Lee Daily, and Mary Ruth Boyd.
