Millikin University's Department of Theatre & Dance has brought "The Addams Family" to life as part of its 2015-2016 production season.

The new musical comedy is based on the original characters by cartoonist Charles Adams. The show's music and lyrics were written by Tony Award nominee Andrew Lippa, and the show is directed and choreographed by Sean T. Morrissey, interim chair of the Department of Theatre & Dance.

"It's a funny and charming show and a real celebration of diversity," said Morrissey. "In a way, they're a very normal family that views the world in a very different way than the rest of us."

The show, which opened on Broadway in 2010, focuses on a single night in the life of the family as it hosts a dinner party for Wednesday Addams' normal boyfriend and his cultured family.
