Assistant or Associate Director of Alumni Engagement

This position initiates, supervises, coordinates and/or assists programming and activities involving alumni (with special attention to alumni programming on Millikin University campus, including Homecoming) for engagement, cultivation, fundraising, stewardship, and informational purposes; contributing to the University overall and to the Alumni and Development division specifically.. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:  

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Event Management: 
    • Lead alumni programming occurring on Millikin University campus and virtually (i.e. Homecoming, Senior Champagne Brunch, Founder’s Day/True Blue, Back to Class, Football Alumni Advisory Board). 
    • Build positive relationships with University partners and vendors to execute alumni events
    • Assist the Sr. Director of Alumni Engagement in initiating and coordinating programs and activities for alumni throughout the country; staff alumni board and regional planning groups and events as needed.
  2. Communication:
    • Work in tandem with alumni communications team to reach out to alumni, ensuring appropriate communication with alumni of all ages (including use of social and new media), to promote their active engagement with the University.
    • Provide briefings, remarks, and other event materials as appropriate.
  3. Volunteer Management:
    • Work with University divisions (Admissions, Student Life, Academic Affairs, Athletics) to build positive connections between alumni and students, and alumni and the University.
  4. Data Collection and Management:
    • Utilize event and volunteer management tools to collect and report data on alumni engagement.
    • Maintain consistent and accurate records of alumni events, including attendance and budget.

Contribute to the Alumni and Development Division and the University

  • Contribute to Division and University initiatives, meetings, team sessions, and committees as appropriate or assigned.               
  • Represent the University to the Decatur and higher education community in a professional manner.
  • Maintain and exhibit loyalty to the University, the Alumni & Development Division, and the Development profession.
  • Other duties as assigned by Senior Director of Alumni Engagement and/or Vice President for Alumni and Development.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not have supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws but may provide daily direction and assistance to student employees.    

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to succeed in a result-driven professional organization. Maintaining professional performance, demeanor, team-approach and focus on results while working under pressure in a dynamic environment. Customer, budget, quality and delivery conscious mindset. Ability to establish priorities, work independently with minimal supervision and facilitate teamwork. Highly organized, with the ability to plan, execute and multitask to meet deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail. 

 

 Minimum Education and/or Experience  

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Millikin Alumnus/a preferred
  • Experience in alumni relations, volunteer management, or events preferred
  • Ability to interact with a wide variety of constituent groups
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills – be a “people” person – enjoy working and communicating with others
  • Evidence of personal initiative and follow through
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to plan, evaluate, and improve initiatives to achieve desired results
  • Ability to be creative and innovative
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and social and new media
