Campus Initiatives

AmeriCorps Vista

AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty.  Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities (illinoiscampuscompact.org).

The AmeriCorps Vista at Millikin University is housed in the Office of Inclusion and Student Engagement. The focus areas for our Vista are Healthy Futures and Education by supporting service learning opportunities campus wide, the Long-Vanderburg Scholars Program (LV), The Edge Program (Excellence Developed through Growth & Experience) and the Dennis Millikin Partnership. The Office of Inclusion and Student Engagement takes initiatives to bring awareness about the AmeriCorps position on Millikin’s campus through career, graduate and internship fairs offered by the Center for Academic and Professional Performance (CAPP).

These events take place in the spring semester and are free and open to the public.
