"To be successful takes a well-balanced approach that includes theoretical, practical and social skills. Millikin University delivers a rich and well-rounded "living and learning" experience on campus for all students. A new student center will enhance the entire Millikin experience and have a tremendous impact on every student."

"The student center at Millikin is the heart and soul of student life. It is the central hub on campus as it is the one building on campus that every single student uses daily, bringing the campus together even more."
Allison Lackey '09
Student Representative to the Millikin University Board of Trustees 2008-09
"Millikin has such a vibrant student population. What is so desperately needed is a new place to centralize this vibrancy and to support the close-knit atmosphere that exists. A new student center will provide all members of the Millikin community with a place to gather, collaborate and express their Big Blue spirit. From the traditional student to graduate student, residential to commuter student, faculty member to alumni, this new student center will be everyone's living room at Millikin."

When I was invited to deliver the baccalaureate address during Commencement 2004, I challenged the graduating class to give something back to their new alma mater. Soon after, I had to honestly ask myself: “What have YOU done for Millikin?” My answer to that question resulted in a wonderful journey to establish the Smith/Orlandini Book Award, given annually to a student with demonstrated financial need in the department of exercise science and sport. This ultimately cultivated my desire to establish a permanent fund honoring my family's connection with Millikin.
Accordingly, I have taken steps to endow the Smith/Orlandini Scholarship. Additional support for the endowment has come from alumni family members, who share my pride in knowing that we are helping assist future generations of Millikin students.

As anyone attending Millikin knows, the cost of fees, books and materials, and living expenses are daunting. The annual support I receive from scholarships is essential in helping me achieve my goals.
