Marilyn Yokel taught elementary school for seventeen years. She was the principal of an elementary school for one year, before being hired as Superintendent of Schools. Three years later, she became principal of French Academy Magnet Academy in Decatur. She was a country girl and had lived in the country her entire life, and the urban school had much diversity in the student population. It was quite a challenge, but she loved it, although she worked very hard to get the school functioning well for students, parents, and staff. She retired after eight years and enjoyed the "life of leisure" for about five months. During that time, she and her husband built a new home in a wooded area outside of Charleston, IL, and her first grandchild was born. She found it nice for a while, but really missed the students and the interaction with those in Education. She had an opportunity to work part-time at Millikin starting in January 2003. She is now a full-time lecturer at Millikin and loves it.
She also supervises the PACE student teachers and advises some of the PACE students.
