Connie Newtson is the Field Placement Coordinator for the School of Education. She feels fortunate to come to this job after thirty-four years of teaching at the elementary level. Her first two years of teaching were in a two-room school in West Virginia. She taught the remainder of her years in Decatur, cultivating many friendships and watching her students grow to adulthood. Coming to Millikin fulfills a lifelong dream of working at the college level to place students in local clinical internships. She loves working with young adults and continuing her relationship with the area schools, of which she has been a part for so many years. She also loves to read, garden, and play with her cat, Libby.
"PACE offers adult students, with varied backgrounds and experiences, a chance to continue their education, to better themselves by expanding their opportunities. As they progress through the program, they gain the camaraderie of others who are working toward the same goal. Hence, they support each other through the process and develop a network of strong friendships and support."
"As field placement coordinator, I place students in various internships throughout the PACE program. It is very rewarding to work with students who have a strong focus and a determination to succeed. I also enjoy sharing the students’ new understandings that come about after a period of time interning in their chosen field of education. Growth and a building excitement are evident each semester."
