Plan to Succeed ! Work with a Tutor !
The Office of Student Success provides free peer tutoring on both a scheduled and "by appointment" basis. Peer tutors are selected by department faculty based on their academic excellence. Student Success then trains tutors in general facilitation techniques and use of the Socratic Method. Our tutor services are designed and delivered according to the best practices and standards of the Association for the Tutoring Profession.
Tutors coordinate with faculty and offer students opportunities to review concepts, practice problem-solving skills, develop effective study strategies, improve time management, develop effective test preparation strategies, and network with successful students in their discipline.
Need a Peer Tutor?
Weekly scheduled tutoring starts the second week of the fall and spring semesters and is available Sunday - Thursday when Millikin is in session. Alternative tutor times are possible by pre-arranged appointment. For the current listing of courses with Peer Tutors go to the link on the Office of Student Success main page, as our offerings are updated frequently. If you are taking a class that doesn't have a peer tutor and would like one, contact Dr. Rene Verry at firstname.lastname@example.org
Want to be a Peer Tutor?
Current Millikin students should chat with a faculty member in the course or discipline they want to tutor. To be a peer tutor:
- a faculty member must approve you to tutor specific courses,
- you must be work-study eligible, and
- must complete the Office of Student Success peer tutor training program.
Peer tutors are paid $7.25 / hour to tutor through work-study grant, are paid bimonthly, and may elect direct deposit of tutoring fees to their checking account or direct payment of MU fees.
If you want to know more about tutoring programs or volunteer to work as a peer tutor, please contact Rene Verry, Peer Tutor Coordinator, in Library 14D or at email@example.com
or at 217-424-6398.
