SOTAD Unified Auditions – Spring 2024
Learned Ladies, Circus Olympus, and The Spell of Red River
Tuesday, January 23, 2023 – Saturday, January 27, 2023
AUDITION PROCESS
*Your audition is two minutes in length. You must present a song AND a monologue that meet the requirements below. We WILL call “time” if you go over two minutes, so please plan accordingly. You want to make sure you can show all your material within the time allotted.
SONG
*Please sing an uptempo, Contemporary Musical Theatre cut. Although not required, exploring pieces written by one of the composers highlighted on www.newmusicaltheatre.com would be a great place to start. Because The Spell of Red River is a new work, choosing songs from other new works, workshops, song cycles, etc. is encouraged (as opposed to simply choosing a song from a popular contemporary musical).
*DO NOT sing anything written by Jason Robert Brown, Adam Guettel, or Stephen Sondheim.
*DO NOT sing a pop/rock tune.
MONOLOGUE
*Please present a comedic monologue written in rhymed verse. Suggestions include a speech from one of David Ives’ adaptations of classical comedies, like: The Liar, The School for Lies, The Heir Apparent, and The Metromaniacs.
DANCE
*You will learn a dance combination for The Spell of Red River. All performers are asked to wear either jazz shoes or no shoes while learning the combo and performing at Dance Call. At Dance Call, please dress as your favorite element (Earth, Air, Fire or Water) – making sure that whatever you choose to wear doesn’t inhibit your ability to move.

6-10pm – DANCE CALL (CTD300)
6:30-9:30pm – Circus Olympus Callbacks (CTD311)
*those called back for Circus Olympus will be in the first group for Dance Call
Saturday, January 27 – CALLBACKS
Learned Ladies – 9am-12:30pm (Virginia Rogers Theatre)
The Spell of Red River –1:30-5:30pm (Virginia Rogers Theatre)
