The music business curriculum at Millikin
University is designed to prepare the student for a variety of career
opportunities in the music industry. Guided by its statement of mission
to develop the whole musician--artistically, intellectually, technically--
the inclusion of applied study (music lessons) and ensemble performance
serves to make the music business degree at Millikin unique among its
peers. As such, it can be an excellent program for exploring a variety
of opportunities, including music performance. The program interweaves
a core of traditional business and music industry courses with eight
semesters of applied study and ensemble experience.
It has become one
of the most unique and successful programs of its kind. A generous
free-electives menu allows students the flexibility to create
areas of emphasis. These emphases may include, but are not limited to
performance, recording, production, promotion, artist & repertoire, administration,
e-commerce, graphic arts, merchandising, sales, and distribution. An internship
and a topics seminar deliver an appropriate capstone experience from within
the major. The music business degree is also an excellent choice for those
considering law school.
