The electives component of the Commercial
Music major offers students the opportunity to deliberately focus their
program of study toward life and career interests. Those interested in
recording engineering may choose additional courses in studio techniques
or production. Those interested in writing/arranging may choose additional
courses in commercial music theory, songwriting, or jazz arranging. Those
considering performance may opt for additional applied lessons or advanced
improvisation coursework. The aforementioned are characterized as "tracks" in
the MU Bulletin. The student may, however, choose to develop his/her
own personal career "track" which could include electives from
outside of the School of Music. It is important that you choose carefully
and intentionally. These courses should serve to personalize your degree
in such a way that builds upon your strengths and interests. For further
inquiry regarding potential music industry careers, see the
MENC
Careers in Music site.
Generally
speaking, all course offerings in the School of Music may be used to
fulfill music electives. Credits beyond those required in applied
music and music organizations may be considered music electives only
with the consent of the Director of the School of Music. |
