Millikin University’s Art Department seeks a tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Art Therapy. Salary competitive. Position begins August 2017.
The Art Department has 5 FT faculty and 60 students, and offers BFA degrees in Studio Art, Commercial Art/Graphic Design and Art Therapy, in addition to the Bachelor of Arts in Art. The Art Department curriculum embraces the performance learning and an ethos of learning by doing. We offer an integrated approach that encourages individual creativity and expression. Students are given numerous opportunities to apply their learning to experiences both in Decatur and around the world via immersions courses, practicums, and internships and are encouraged to develop an entrepreneurial approach to their art.
Qualifications: PhD in Art Therapy/Creative Arts Therapies, Psychology or related field preferred, will consider candidates with the M.A. or M. S. in Art Therapy. ATR/ATR-BC credentials preferred. Undergraduate degree in art is a plus. Teaching experience, and commitment to excellence in undergraduate education required. An undergraduate degree in is art preferred.
Responsibilities: Include teaching 4 courses per semester, including Introduction to Art Therapy, Art Therapy Materials and Methods, Art Therapy Seminar, supervise internships and practicums, oversee the Art Therapy studio at the Cancer Care facility in Decatur Memorial Hospital, and an Art for Teachers class. Advising and mentoring undergraduate BA and BFA students is necessary. Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated vision, enthusiasm, and leadership are essential.
