Conducting Applied Research and Creating and Upgrading Products

Our faculty expertise and student interests cover a wide range of industries and applications. Recently, students have worked on projects ranging from how cryogenic technology can improve wind turbine gearbox bearings to the identification of DNA-based substances in the food manufacturing industry.

The ISE operates a research & development center for companies in the wild bird feeding hobby. The center provides companies throughout the U.S. and Canada within the $5 billion industry with tests of food and feeder products. Ultimately, the center may influence the seed blends and feeder types that hobbyists are able to purchase while providing our students with performance learning opportunities.
