SUBJECT: EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH - November 2009
It is a pleasure to accept the recommendation of the Employee Recognition Committee that Mary Peters be honored as Employee of the Month for November 2009.
Mary Peters began working at Millikin University on June 18, 1988 as a part-time Secretary in the Office of Career Development & Placement. Mary became a full-time Secretary in the Student Development Office effective 7/31/89. Mary was promoted to the position of Secretary to the Dean of Students effective November 23, 1992. Effective September 16, 1996 Mary transferred from Secretary to the Dean of Student Life to Receptionist/Clerk in the Registrar's Office. Mary transferred from the Registrar's Office to the Secretary to the Dean of Arts & Sciences effective September 11, 2000. Effective July 1, 2008 Mary's title changed to Administrative Assistant III to the Dean of Arts and Sciences.
The Employee Recognition Committee received very compelling support for Mary's nomination, including the following comments:
“Mary likes people and likes to help them succeed, so she gives everyone who comes to the office her undivided attention. When a student is struggling or has gone through a difficult situation, it is not unusual for them to come to Mary Peters because she is such a good listener. And she has excellent advice for them. It has been a pleasure to see that faculty-both new faculty and senior faculty-come to Mary to discuss things happening in their lives and careers. She is a people-person and one of the treasures of our Millikin University family.”
“I have come to know Mary as friendly, conscientious, and responsible. She does an outstanding job of coordinating the day-to-day activities of the College of Arts and Sciences, and our college is very lucky to have someone with her skills, talent, and dedication.”
“Mary Peters is an unbelievable asset to the College of Arts and Sciences. Mary is 100% committed to Millikin and goes above and beyond the call of duty on a regular basis.”
“Her dedication to Millikin, day in and day out, is truly extraordinary. She is quite deserving of this honor.”
“One of the characteristics that I always admired in her was her willingness to solve every problem by herself, never telling me to call another person. Mary is one of the few persons that is always available; it doesn't matter how many deadlines she has nor how many people are requesting her help. Mary's strategies are directed towards finding the best solutions for the benefit of students, faculty and staff.”
Congratulations, Mary on such a well-deserved honor!
