It takes time and preparation to get ready for the costs of a college education. Be ready for each step of the process with these monthly suggestions:
December: Visit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) website at www.pin.ed.gov to register for your PIN. This PIN is required to electronically submit the FAFSA. If you do not have access to the website, visit the college financial aid office or call 1-800-4FED-AID.
Other websites that contain valuable financial aid information include:
collegeillinois.org – State of Illinois
fastweb.com – FREE Scholarship Search
finaid.org – the Smart Guide to Financial Aid
studentaid.ed.gov – Department of Education
January: Use your previous year's federal tax return information to complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.gov. Millikin's school code is 001724. Contact us if you have problems with the electronic process or you do not have access to the Internet.
February: Review the Student Aid Report (SAR) you receive from the FAFSA submission and verify the information reported is accurate.
March/April: Millikin's review of the FAFSA results begins. If additional information is required, we will contact you. Your student will receive an official financial aid award notification from Millikin.
May: Finalize your college choice and make reservations to attend Freshman Registration at Millikin in June.
June: Freshman Registration is held on campus. Finalize financial aid and payment options.
July: Verify that you and your student have completed all necessary steps to receive educational loans. Student borrowers must complete an online pre-loan counseling session at www.studentloans.gov. Your first billing statement will be mailed for fall term and payment arrangements can be made.
August: Students move to campus and classes begin.
