Learning a Technique

Korinne Frankford, a senior at Millikin University, is looking forward to the day when she'll become a pharmacist. Frankford is a chemistry major from Alton, Ill., and her previous experiences of job-shadowing pharmacists in hospital and retail settings has confirmed her passion for wanting to attend pharmacy school.

Real-world projects are an essential component of Millikin University's Performance Learning curriculum. This is especially true in the Tabor School of Business where a group of students recently worked with the government of Ecuador to develop a U.S. market entry strategy for Ecuadorian handicrafts.

Millikin Wire: Madison Ciaccio

Madison Ciaccio, a senior art therapy major from Mahomet, Ill., is the 2017 Robert Harrison Crowder Artist-in-Residence at Blue Connection, Millikin's student-run retail art gallery. She is currently studying painting and drawing, and works under the guidance of Professor Lyle Salmi, chair of the Art Department at Millikin. Ciaccio will showcase her artwork at Blue Connection from May 22 – June 30.

Millikin biology major awarded Clinical Nuclear Science Fellowship

Millikin University biology major Whitney Gray, a junior from Greenville, Ill., has been named the recipient of the Summer 2017 Clinical Nuclear Science Fellowship at Decatur Memorial Hospital (DMH).

For one day on the Millikin campus students are given an opportunity to present a years' worth of achievements and research to the University-wide community; that day is Celebrations of Scholarship (COS).

The celebratory event, held on April 28, was a culmination of academic achievement that represented a vast array of subjects in the fine arts, sciences, business, nursing and more.

Millikin Wire: Kate Gebultowicz '17

Millikin University student Kate Gebultowicz is a senior chemistry major with an emphasis in research and pre-pharmacy.

The Glenview, Ill., native has spent the past year working on her senior research which focuses on solid phase peptide synthesis. As part of her research Gebultowicz uses three amino acids to form a peptide. She tests the peptide to see if can penetrate a cancer cell.

Millikin Wire: Trevor Stout

Trevor Stout, a sophomore at Millikin University, recently became a trumpet performance major and is engaging in opportunities to perform with ensembles and record in the studio.

Stout is currently in four ensembles within Millikin's School of Music, including the wind ensemble, jazz band and brass quintet.

The Decatur, Ill., native is amazed by the talent in the School of Music as well as Millikin's College of Fine Arts.

3D-printing technology is growing in many areas of research, including electrochemistry. With this technology on the rise, Millikin University Leighty Scholar Adam Peters, a senior chemistry major from Decatur, Ill., is studying how 3D-printing can be used to create electrochemical devices as well as its importance to a wide range of scientific disciplines.
