Professor Burgoon’s most recent teaching experience was as the lecturer for the Fundamentals of Human Anatomy and Physiology course offered in the Biology Department at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill. During her graduate training, she also served for a number of years as a teaching assistant and tutor for the medical gross anatomy course at the UNC at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.

During her last few years at UNC, she served as a research assistant and the project coordinator for a US Department of Education’s Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education grant. The grant, entitled Web-Based Materials for the Enhancement of Anatomical Instruction in the Health Sciences, funded the development of on-line anatomy instructional resources for students in the health professions, as well as the evaluation of these resources. Her dissertation work is investigating the self-efficacy of medical students for the anatomy curriculum.
