Center in Denton, Texas.</p><p>She was born November 22, 1918 in Mt. Vernon, IL. to Charles F. and Brenda ( Barr ) Lee. She married Dr. Mack D. Vaughan Jr.on July 5, 1950 in Arkadelphia, AR. They were married for 57 years. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2008.</p><p>She received her Bachelors from Milliken in Decatur, Ill. and her Masters from University of Illinois. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Denton, and Church Choir for 40 years, the Denton Country Club, Sigma Alpha Iota, Music Dept. of the Ariel Club, and was a retired Music Teacher from Newton Razor Elementary School in Denton.</p><p>Marjorie is survived by her daughters Brenda and husband Roy E. Busby of Aubrey and Evelyn and husband John Welle of Hurst; four grandchildren Becky children Raymond Bumpers and Bryan Bumpers. She was preceded in death by Bumpers, Amanda Busby, Travis Busby and Derek Welle; two great-grand- her brother Roger Lee.</p></div></div>

      <description><![CDATA[<div><b>Body:</b> <div class=ExternalClassB13D7BA850624640ABDC68A432A70BA0><p><cite>Arthur, Ill.</cite></p><p>Margaret Ellen Watkins, 86, of Arthur, Ill. died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012 in Urbana, Ill.</p><p>Margaret was born Oct. 16, 1925 in Decatur, Ill. to Raymond and Marguerite Camp Myers. On June 5, 1949, she married Billy Watkins. Mrs. Watkins was a homemaker and was a member of Arthur United Methodist Church.</p><p>Margaret is survived by her sons, Tom Watkins and his wife, Angie, of Lebanon; Wally Watkins, of Arthur, Ill.; Richard Watkins and his wife, Janet, of Mahomet, Ill.; a daughter, Sue Whitacre, of Lynchburg, Va.; a brother, Richard Myers and his wife, Joan, of Blue Mound, Ill.; a sister, Mary Merrill, of Decatur, Ill.; nine grandchildren, David Watkins, Leanna Weber, Benjamin Whitacre, Andrew Whitacre, Nicholas Watkins, Stacy Watkins, Tiffany, Parker and Abbi Watkins; eight great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and 10 step-great-grandchildren.</p><p>Mrs. Watkins is preceded in death by her husband, Billy; her parents; a son, Robert Watkins; a grandson, Blake Watkins; two brothers and a sister.</p></div></div>

      <description><![CDATA[<div><b>Body:</b> <div class=ExternalClassEA02724564A04C16B40E3721A4B603E8><img alt="" style="width:220px;float:left;margin:4px 20px 20px 0px;clear:left" src="/alumni/stayconnected/quarterly/memorials/Lists/Photos/Verkler-Dorothy.jpg"><p style="clear:none"><cite>Peoria, IL</cite></p><p style="clear:none">Dorothy 'Jane' Verkler, 88, of Peoria was surrounded by family in her home when she quietly slipped into eternity to be with Jesus Friday evening, September 21, 2012. Born in Decatur, IL on June 22, 1924, to Sanford 'SJ' and Julia (Cain) Thornton, she was the youngest of three daughters. Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister Katherine 'Kitchie' McGrath, son Thornton 'Louie' Verkler, granddaughter Karissa Verkler, and her beloved goddaughter, Julia 'Gabby' Carter. She was married on November 27, 1948 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Decatur to John H. Verkler Jr</p><p style="clear:none">Jane attended St. Theresa High School in Decatur and Millikin University, where she specialized in literature. She loved working as her father’s secretary at Thornton Realty before starting her greatest vocation as wife and mother of seven. She especially loved children. Jane entertained and encouraged all with lively stories of her youth, Irish relatives, and life-time experiences. She was a member of the Peoria Garden Club and was fond of birds and music. A longtime member of St. Philomena Catholic Church, she was a Regular Adorer of the Blessed Sacrament. She was devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was also our angel, we will always love her, because as she would always tell us, there will always be always.</p><p style="clear:none">Her family would like to thank God for His faithfulness to Jane and for blessing us with this beautiful person to know and love. We would also like to thank her gentle caregivers and the members of her OSF Hospice team for all their support and encouragement.</p><p style="clear:none">Jane is survived by her husband, along with four daughters, Veronica Verkler of Peoria, Connie (Don) Farquharson of Punta Gorda, FL, Julie Meier (Doug Baughman) of East Peoria, and Anne (Leonard) Hilbert of Peoria; two sons, John III (Laura) of Pasadena, CA and Andrew (Sara) of Mapleton; and daughter-in-law Betty Verkler of Sheboygan, WI; fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her sister Julia Carter of Oak Ridge, TN.</p></div></div>

Originally from Illinois, she was a longtime resident of Alexandria, VA and Punta Gorda, FL before moving to Savannah in 2005, a short time after her husband passed away. She enjoyed playing bridge, tennis, golf, yachting, swimming, traveling with her husband, and taking many family trips.</p><p style="clear:none">Madeline is survived by her son, Robert Gidel Jr. and his partner, David Hubert of Savannah; her brother, Robert Sprunger Sr. and sister-in-law Carol of Chicago; a niece, Susan (Sprunger) Strohl of Chicago; and nephews Kevin Curl of Las Vegas (NV), Mason Curl of Long Beach (CA), Shepherd Curl of Huntsville (AL), and Robert Sprunger Jr. of Chicago.</p><p style="clear:none">She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Donald Gidel Sr.; her father, Asa Sprunger; her mother Mabel Evelyn (Rice) Sprunger; and her brother, James Marshall Sprunger.</p></div></div>

She was a member of Mt. Vernon, died at 8 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.</p><p>She was born Saturday, March 1, 1924, in Evans City, Pa., daughter of Charles Leland Spence and Frances Beulah (Ifft) Spence. She married Haldon Wayne Bliler in Illiopolis in 1947, and he preceded her in death in 1970. She married George John Kmetz in Illiopolis in 1980, and he preceded her in death in 2005.</p><p>Mimi attained her Bachelors of Science degree from Millikin University in Decatur in 1946 and was a member of Delta Delta Delta and Sigma Alpha lota sororities. She was a music teacher at Illiopolis High School for 13 years, a member of First United Methodist Church, the Greentree Assisted Living Community and the Old Goshen Trail Chapter, all of Mt. Vernon.</p><p>Kmetz is survived by son, Edmund Bliler of Illiopolis; daughter, Susan Wurth and husband Gordan of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Andrew Zaruba of St. Louis, Eric Wurth of Westfield, Ind., Matthew Zaruba of Dallas and Emily Wurth of Springfield; and sister, Ellen Reik of Emerson, N.J.</p><p>She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; daughter, Kathlyn Boemler; brother, John Spence; and sisters, Francis Stewart and Nathalie Beatty.</p></div></div>

Hoppock passed away Oct. 19, 2012 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Miss.. Mrs. Hoppock was a retired school teacher and also served as a secretary for Home Health.</p><p>She is preceded in death by her husband, David Lee Hoppock; parents, Carl Stocker and Mary Frances Brittin Thomas, as well as a brother Gene Stocker and a sister Linda Humes.</p><p>Her survivors include a son, David Lewis Hoppock of Centralia; daughters, Linda Lee Hugelman of Waynesville; Lisa Ann Wagner of San Dimas, Calif.; and Laura Beth Moore of Flowood, Miss. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Billie Hoppock, Hillary Hugelman, Lucas Hoppock, Kathryn Hugelman.</p><p>She is also survived by her brother, Dale Stocker of Orlando, Fla., and sisters, Jane Young of Richmond, Ky., and Phyllis Salter of Richmond, Ky.</p><p>In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be made in the memory of Helen Hoppock, to the Madison Ark Animal Rescue, P.O.       <description><![CDATA[<div><b>Body:</b> <div class=ExternalClass989D7085022A48DCA7C327FC0673478B><strong>Ogden, IA</strong><p>Pattiann Wright, 77, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2012, at the Ogden Manor. She was born on February 18, 1935, in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Henry and Opal (Moore) Fulks, and graduated from High School in Decatur, Illinois, and furthered her education at Millikin University in Decatur.</p><p>In 1957, Pat was united in marriage to Richard R. Wright. The couple lived in Carbondale, Illinois, and Ames, Iowa, before establishing their home north of Ogden. Pat taught piano and voice, as well as horseback riding. She was employed by Iowa State University for more than 30 years, where she worked in five different schools and also had served as Secretary to the Dean of Architecture. She retired in 2002.</p><p>Pat was a voracious reader. She loved all animals, but horses were always the most special. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.</p><p>Pattiann is survived by her daughter, Diana (Herb) Skarbek of Spring, Texas; son, Don Wright of Ogden, Iowa; five grandchildren, Eric Wright (Jessica Lorenzen), Jessica McCarthy, Gwen (Nathan) Christenson, Neal Skarbek, and Kyle Skarbek.</p><p>She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Richard &quot;Dick&quot; Wright in June of 1986.</p></div></div>

(Val) Kowalski, obl.SB, was born in Galesburg, Ill., on July 3, 1952, and entered into eternal life on Sunday, January 6, 2013. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, John; her son, Mark; and members of the Harding and Eby families.</p><p>She received a Bachelor's degree from Millikin University and a Master's degree and Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University. She also completed the requirements to become a Certified Public Accountant. She was a faculty member at the State University of New York College at Brockport, a senior project manager at several consulting firms in Washington, D.C., and owned her own accounting firm in Roanoke.</p><p>Val was a woman of deep faith and commitment to the Lord. She was actively involved at Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church and Roanoke Catholic School. Val's spirituality led her to recently become an oblate of St. Benedict. </p></div></div>

She was a resident of Winter Park Towers in Winter Park, FL and previously of Decatur, IL.</p><p style="clear:none">Paula was born June 6, 1924, in Decatur, the daughter of James E. Roby and Laura L. Kortge. She attended Millikin University and graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Retired from Caterpillar, where she worked as a Purchasing Analyst, she was extremely active in many organizations throughout her life. Her strong faith in God focused much of her time as an active member of First Lutheran Church. As a member, she served on various committees, was editor of the church newspaper, participated in bible studies, church circle, taught Sunday school and was a member of the church choir for over 30 years. Paula was a past member of the Millikin Alumnae Board and a member of BC Chapter of PEO. She enjoyed many years as an active member of Pi Beta Phi sorority where she made friends that have lasted a lifetime. She was a Patroness of Junior Welfare and member of South Side Country Club for over 60 years. Belonging to several bridge clubs throughout her life, she was an avid golfer, and above all, enjoyed her family. She married Robert W. Taylor on June 25, 1946 in Decatur.</p><p style="clear:none">Paula loved people. She could easily engage anyone in conversation with her genuine interest and keen intellect. She lived her life always putting others first, especially her family, and selflessly managed to do this with kindness and a smile. Everyone was made to feel welcome. She was someone with strong determination, had a wonderful sense of humor, a true competitor, an inspiration for many and always a lady. It has been a blessing to have this beautiful woman in our lives and she will be deeply missed.</p><p style="clear:none">Paula is survived by her daughters, Jan T. Munson (Dr. Greg Munson), Jill Taylor, and Laura Jo Brock (Lawrence Brock) all of Winter Park, FL; grandchildren Charles Ince of Boulder, CO, Wesley Ince of Charlotte, NC, Eric Munson of St. Louis, MO, and Taylor Brock of Winter Park, FL; great grandchildren Payton, Shea and Max Munson, Kingston Ince, Parker and Zoe Ince; sister-in-law June Roby; three nieces; several great-nieces and nephews; and many life long friends.</p><p style="clear:none">She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister, and 2 brothers including the late Verne E. Roby.</p><p style="clear:none">The family wishes to thank the large number of Paula's friends. Their kindness, love and support have never wavered. Born December 28, 1918 in Fort Wayne, IN, she was a graduate of Millikin University, Decatur, IL and was a school teacher prior to her marriage to Charles M. Cochran in 1944.</p><p>Marjorie and Charles raised 5 children - Charles Jr (1946-), Susan (1949-1950), Richard (1951-2012), and twins Jeanette and Jacqueline (1953-). In addition to her 3 remaining children, Marjorie is survived by sister-in-law Barbara Whitney (Herbert), 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 6 nieces and nephews, as well friends across the country.</p></div></div>

      <description><![CDATA[<div><b>Body:</b> <div class=ExternalClass6E4133F5A97D4CB8881E2C88B64E77E8><img alt="" width=104 height=157 src="/alumni/stayconnected/quarterly/memorials/Lists/Photos/Ashby-Cathy.jpg" style="float:left;margin:4px 20px 20px 0px;clear:left"><p style="clear:none">Cathy L. Ashby, an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and all around fantastic person, passed away on December 11, 2012.</p><p style="clear:none">Cathy was born on May 13, 1949, the daughter of James R. and Kathaleen Canaday, and grew up in Blue Mound. She married her high school sweetheart, Keith Ashby, on August 30, 1969.</p><p style="clear:none">Professionally, Cathy was a grade school teacher, co-owner of Swartz Restaurant, Macon County Treasurer, and Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Soy Capital Bank. She earned her CPA certificate, received the Women of Excellence Government and Politics Award, participated in Rotary, carved ice sculptures, was integral in bringing the Race for the Cure to Decatur and cared about her community. During her recent retirement, she focused her energy on spending time with her family, including her four grandchildren who adored their Grammy, as well as becoming involved with P.E.O, bridge and book clubs. She will be lovingly remembered as a caring individual with a smile on her face and love in her heart.</p><p style="clear:none">Cathy leaves behind many who will miss her dearly including husband Keith Ashby; her children Amanda Flegel and her husband Matt, Vanessa Bechtel and her husband Phil, and Bradey Ashby; her grandchildren Ivy, Lilith and River Flegel and Jaxon Bechtel; mother Kathaleen Kraft and her husband Merle; her sisters Carol Moomey and her friend Leonard Thomas, and Rita Colee and her husband Dale; her sister-in-law Marilyn Canaday; step-brothers Darrell Kraft and his wife Theresa, and Ed Kraft and his wife Marcia; and many nieces, nephews and friends.</p><p style="clear:none">Cathy was preceded in death by her father James, her brother Richard Canaday, her sister Barbara Crowder and her husband Larry, and stepsister Diane Kraft.</p></div></div>

      <description><![CDATA[<div><b>Body:</b> <div class=ExternalClassB340673F5F864C0D898F1967C535CAA7><p style="clear:none"><strong>Largo, FL.</strong></p><p style="clear:none">Donald N. Ward, 83, of Largo, Fla., formerly of Brookston, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Largo Medical Center of Largo, Florida.</p><p style="clear:none">He was born December 5, 1929, in Streator, Ill., to the late Charles F. and Marie S. (Wolfanger) Ward. He graduated from Streator High School in 1947 and earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois.</p><p style="clear:none">His marriage was to Martha S. Walsh on July 30, 1955, in Spring Valley, Illinois. She survives.</p><p style="clear:none">He served in the military during the Korean War from 1953-1955. He was an electrician by trade, worked as a registered professional engineer, retiring from the Scholer Corporation, Lafayette, in 1994.</p><p style="clear:none">Donald was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Seminole, Fla., Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, Rotary, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and the American Legion.</p><p style="clear:none">He enjoyed numismatics and golf.</p><p style="clear:none">Surviving with his wife, are three children; Thomas C. Ward (Diane) of Auburn, Joan M. Land (Rick/deceased) of Hope, and Carol W. Farrell of West Lafayette; seven grandchildren: Anne Delegrange (Chris), Kate Baughman (Bobby), Joshua, Molly and Joseph Land, and Kelly and Mason Farrell; two great-grandchildren: Will and Ben Delegrange.</p><p style="clear:none">He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert D. &quot;Bob&quot; Ward; and brother, Richard C.       <description><![CDATA[<div><b>Body:</b> <div class=ExternalClass0D1A60277CDE43CB8EA8A6FE476D8212><p style="clear:none"><strong>Decatur, IL</strong></p><p style="clear:none">I regret to inform of the passing of my dear wife Janis R. Di Lullo, (nee Katz) after a lengthy illness on April 20, 2013.</p><p style="clear:none">She was born, March 8th, 1934 in Urbana, Illinois, and moved to Decatur, Illinois at the age of three. Mrs. Di Lullo graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1952, and Millikin University in 1956 with a bachelor's degree. She went to work for Lindsay-Schaub Newspapers, (Decatur Herald &amp; Review) from 1953 to 1963, first as a proof reader, then in advertising sales and service. Mrs. Di Lullo taught Spanish at Eisenhower High School from 1963 to 1967. She moved to Medford, NJ in 1967, where she was a Spanish teacher at Shawnee High School, retiring after 24 years of service. Mrs. Di Lullo then taught Spanish culture at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ for ten years. She attended graduate studies at the University of Valencia in Valencia Spain. Took courses at West Chester University, West Chester, Pa; Taft School for Creative Teaching, Watertown, CT and Glassboro State College, NJ. Mrs. Di Lullo had polio when she was seven years old that left her without the use of her right arm. In the 55 years I was married to her, I never heard her once complain. She touched many lives with her kindness and compassion for others. She will greatly and sadly be missed by her family and friends and all who knew and loved her. Mrs. Di Lullo leaves her husband of 55 years, Dennis R., and son David J. Meldahl, 79, of Washington, Ill., died at 1:05 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill.</p><p style="clear:none">Born on March 20, 1934, in Cisco, Ill., to Edgar Rex and Lucille Beatrice Barclay Meldahl, he married Donna J. Curtis on April 20, 1957, in Decatur, Ill. She survives.</p><p style="clear:none">Also surviving are three children, Sally Anne (R. Michael) Dunston of O'Fallon, Mo., Lori S. (Dennis) McGrew of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Evan Drew Meldahl of Franklin, Tenn., six grandchildren, Adam Dunston, Brian Dunston, Jennifer Williams, Alicia McGrew, Kaitlyn McGrew, and Taryn McGrew, four great-grandchildren, Bailey, Malia, Mason, and Max Drew, and two brothers, David Meldahl and Edgar Meldahl.</p><p style="clear:none">He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Karen Fellows and Wanda Berlin.</p><p style="clear:none">Drew received his bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering from Millikin University in Decatur in 1957.</p><p style="clear:none">He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959.</p><p style="clear:none">Drew worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1995 as a computer analyst.</p><p style="clear:none">He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Decatur, was an Eagle Scout and served as a Boy Scout Leader, and served on the Washington Community High School 308 School Board for several years. Friday, April 12, 2013 at the Monmouth Nursing Home.</p><p style="clear:none">She was born Feb. 29, 1924 in Mercer County, IL the daughter of T.L. and Josie Ellen (Dorothy) Morford.  She was raised and educated in Mercer and Knox Counties graduating from Abingdon, High School in 1942 and later attending Millikin University.</p><p style="clear:none">Mandy married William H. Harris in Knox County in 1945.  She later married John A. McKenzie in Monmouth in 1971 and he died in 1995.</p><p style="clear:none">Mandy taught school in Mercer Co. for a few years before becoming at full time  homemaker, then later she worked in the office at Gambles in Monmouth until her retirement.</p><p style="clear:none">She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Monmouth and volunteered for several years at the Cottage Corner in Galesburg.   She loved to cook, bake, sew, read and spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.</p><p style="clear:none">Mandy is survived by her 3 children, Mary Jo (Karl) Reynolds of Alexis, Il, Jacki S. (Jim) Ratledge of Charleston, SC, and John W. (Kay) Harris of Beaufort, SC; step-daughter, Ann McKenzie of Galesburg; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; step-brother, Richard McClelland of Naperville, IL; nieces and nephews.</p><p style="clear:none">She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Wallace Morford; sisters, Marjorie Sanderson and Dorothy Jean Bartlett.</p></div></div>

(Pete) Taylor was born in Shelbyville, Illinois on October 5, 1925, son of Frank (Pete) and Rose Holland Taylor. He passed away in Monroe, Washington on April 11, 2013.</p><p style="clear:none">Pete was an Eagle Scout and served as Cub Master and Boy Scout Master for many years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Golden K Kiwanis. He served in the Navy during WWII as a Signalman Second Class. He attended Shelbyville schools, Sparks Business College and Millikin University, where he was an SAE.</p><p style="clear:none">Pete operated the family hatchery business in Shelbyville and in 1957 merged with Standard Hatcheries of Decatur. As an active member of the poultry hatchery business, he served as President of the Illinois Poultry and Hatchery Federation and was awarded the “Golden Egg” award for his contributions to the industry.</p><p style="clear:none">Pete married Ann Traver in 1948. She passed away April 11, 1955. He married Martha S. Caulkins in 1961. He and Martha were active in the harness racing business, owning several trotters and pacers. Martha passed away March 1, 2012.</p><p style="clear:none">Pete's children are daughters Julie Barry (Pat) of Woodinville, WA, Molly Mulligan (Tim), Monroe, WA, sons Bill (Patti) Oregon City, OR, David (Laura) Hilo, HI, and Tom (Gale) Spokane, WA. He was also “Dad” to Dan Caulkins (Jo), Decatur, Charles, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Zack (Rene), Wayne, IL, and Clay of Chicago. There are 20 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.</p><p style="clear:none">Pete was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Vura Mae Abernathy and Anna Nelle Lindsey.</p><p style="clear:none">Obituary written by family members.</p></div></div>
