Ewing lectureship brings congress to campus.

The Congress to Campus program, this year’s Thomas W. Ewing Lectureship, is set for Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Richards Treat University Center. Join us as former U.S. Congressmen Jack Buechner (R-Mo.) and William Roy (D-Kan.) speak about the impact of this year’s presidential election and the importance of bipartisan cooperation. The event is free and open to the public; for more info, call 217-424-6383.

Record crowd celebrates Homecoming.

A record crowd of alumni and their families attended Homecoming earlier this month. Over the three-day weekend, more than 70 events were held throughout campus and the surrounding area. With activities ranging from casual to formal, highlights included:

  • On Saturday, Oct. 6, more than 650 complimentary lunches were served to alumni in Griswold Center and Richards Treat University Center.
  • Delta Delta Delta and Pi Beta Phi sororities each celebrated their MU chapter’s centennial with gatherings, including a Delta dinner/dance and a Pi Phi brunch. In total, more than 500 individuals joined in the sorority celebrations.

Group photos of class and affinity reunions will be available to be viewed and ordered online by Thursday of this week at www.drroberts.com/muhomecoming.html.

 
ACS chapter receives award.

Millikin’s student chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) received an Outstanding Chapter Award from the national ACS for its activities during the 2011-2012 academic year. This is the second consecutive year the chapter has won this award, and the 12th consecutive year they have been recognized by the ACS. The chapter also received a Green Chemistry Award for activities promoting best practices in green chemistry, an award they have received eight times in the last 10 years.

VP Dunsworth named president of the University of the Ozarks.

Richard Dunsworth, vice president for enrollment, will leave Millikin in June to step into his new role as president of the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark. A national search for the next vice president for enrollment management will begin immediately.

During his 20 years at MU, Dunsworth has served in many positions, including resident director, director of Greek life, assistant/associate/dean of student life and academic development and currently, vice president for enrollment.

 
Search for Tabor dean underway.

Millikin is seeking a visionary, collaborative and innovative leader to serve as dean of the Tabor School of Business following this summer's resignation of Dr. James Dahl as dean. Review of applications will begin immediately. If you are interested in becoming this leader or know someone in your network who would be a great fit, refer to the full job description and online application. Qualified Millikin alumni are encouraged to apply.

Let’s get together in St. Louis.

St. Louis area alumni: On Thursday, Oct. 18, the Millikin Club of St. Louis is hosting a get-together for Millikin alumni at McGurk's Irish Pub in Soulard, 1200 Russell Boulevard.

Join us from 7-9 p.m. for free appetizers and a chance to spend time with other alums in the area. Our Millikin group will gather in the private room in the back!

 
Workman Challenge to help fund football field project.

Millikin Trustee Gary Workman ’64 has offered to match commitments made – dollar for dollar – up to $150,000 toward the artificial turf and lighting project for Frank M. Lindsay Field.
