According to a recent report from the National Research Center for College & University Admissions, Millikin's office of admission website is among the most highly rated in the country. NRCCUA's 14th annual analysis of the admissions websites of nearly 3,000 colleges and universities ranked Millikin's site as No. 7 in the nation overall and No. 1 in website design.

Winter commencement set for Dec. 16

More than 100 students are scheduled to receive their diplomas at Millikin’s annual winter commencement ceremony, set for Sunday, Dec. 16, at Kirkland Fine Arts Center. Duane Noland, trustee emeritus, and president and CEO of the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives, will deliver the commencement address. Commercial music major Danica Henry of DeKalb, Ill., and PACE education major Katherine Price of Decatur will serve as student speakers.

Decatur–area alums: Jazz up your holidays!

Join us Saturday, Dec. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Kirkland Fine Arts Center as Millikin’s Faculty Jazz Sextet and vocalist Angel Spiccia ’03 present their jazzy swing on Christmas classics.

The Millikin Alumni Association is hosting a free dessert reception prior to the performance at 6:30 p.m. in the Tower Rehearsal Hall (K136). To RSVP and receive directions to the reception, contact the alumni office at 217-424-6383 or email alumnews@millikin.edu by Wednesday, Dec. 12.

Traditional cookie party remains a big hit.

Thousands of cookies (and countless calories) were consumed at the 79th annual Holiday Cookie Party, held Wednesday, Dec. 5, in Richards Treat University Center. Thanks to the efforts of 45-50 volunteers who provided and served the supply of goodies, MU students and employees enjoyed a sweet treat to welcome in the holiday season.

Each year, it’s chili in February.

Decatur area alums: The MU Alumni Association invites you to a pre-basketball

Chili Bar

Noon to 1:30 p.m.
Saturday, Feb. 2
Lock, Stock & Barrel, 129 S. Oakland Avenue, next to campus

Cost for the meal is $5.50 per person and includes soft drinks. Pay at LSB, but RSVP to the alumni office (217-424-6383) so we have enough seats reserved. Afterward, join us in cheering for Big Blue basketball:

2 p.m. Women’s Basketball vs. North Park

The women’s basketball game is a Pink Zone event to support the “Come Together, Let’s Walk” initiative to fight ovarian, breast and cervical cancer. There will be a silent auction and contributions will be accepted.

4 p.m. Men’s basketball vs. North Park

Your Alumni Association membership card provides free admission to both games.

Jazz alums: save the date!

Plan now to help celebrate 50 years of jazz at Millikin on Saturday, April 13, 2013. Alumni who have participated in MU's jazz program are invited to the celebration, which begins with lunch at noon, followed by a Jazz Band rehearsal (for those still actively playing) from 1:30-3:30 p.m., and a commemorative concert at 7:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The concert will feature One Voice, Jazz Band I and alumni jazz band members. Then cap off the evening with a reception at the alumni & development center. Two alumni involved in "Elf" productions

This holiday season, Kate Hennies '11 stars in "Elf the Musical" at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul, Minn. Hennies plays the part of Jovie in this Christmas movie turned touring musical. "This is my first professional musical," says Hennies. "We are on the move and constantly on our toes. I couldn't be happier with the unbelievable cast and creative team that I've had the opportunity to work with." Hennies and the rest of the cast and crew are in St. Paul until the tour ends on Dec. 30.

In other "Elf" news, Andy Grobengieser '91 is serving as music director for a production of the musical at 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle through Dec. 31.
