Young Blue, this Decatur event’s for you.

Young and young-at-heart alumni and friends are invited to a holiday gathering at Decatur's Katz Piano Bar on Merchant Street from 5 to 7 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 16. Happy Hour drink specials and appetizers will be available. Gregg Meisenhelter '00 is the new owner of Katz.

Acclaimed education writer to speak on campus.

Jonathan Kozol, one of the most widely read and highly honored education writers in America, will deliver the 2012 James W. Moore Lecture, "The Soul of a Profession: Education Under Siege," on Thursday, March 29, at 7 p.m. in Kirkland Fine Arts Center. In his most recent work, "Letters to a Young Teacher," he draws upon four decades of experience to guide the newest generation of our nation's teachers into what he calls "a beautiful profession."

Highlights include Madrid, Prado Museum, High Speed Train, Cordoba, Costa del Sol, Mijas Pueblo, Granada, Alhambra, Cadiz, Seville, Cascais, Lisbon, Sintra, Estoril, Obidos and Fatima.

Pricing from $3,489 (double occupancy) including round-trip air from Chicago (other gateways also available), with hotel stays in Madrid, Torremolinos, Seville and Cascais. A $250 deposit is due by May 4, 2012.

Afterward, join us in cheering for Big Blue basketball:

2 p.m. Women's Basketball vs. Carthage
The women's basketball game is a Pink Zone event to support the "Come Together, Let's Walk" initiative to fight ovarian, breast and cervical cancer. There will be a silent auction and contributions accepted.

4 p.m. Men's basketball vs. Carthage
