MU’s annual celebration of student scholarship, research and creativity will begin Thursday, April 25, at 7 p.m. with Honors Convocation in Kirkland Fine Arts Center. The Day of Scholarship, COS Poster Symposium and Senior Honors Recognition Day will follow, with presentations and focus panels all day Friday and Saturday morning. All presentations are free and open to the public.

Help celebrate Millikin’s 112th birthday at this year’s Founder’s Day Celebration. Join us Tuesday, April 30, for a picnic on Miller Quad (Wornick Dining Room in case of rain) from 5-7 p.m. A ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. and entertainment includes performances by the Millikin Men and others. Decatur Mayor Mike McElroy will also share his thoughts on what Millikin means to Decatur. Cost of the meal is $8, payable at the door.

Dr. J. Mark Munoz, associate professor of management and international business, has received a Region 4 2013 Teaching Excellence Award from The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). The region includes Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Ontario, Canada. As a regional recipient, Munoz is now a candidate for an International Teaching Excellence Award, to be presented in June.

David Giertz ’86, president of Nationwide Financial Institution Distributors Agency Inc., and a Millikin trustee, will give the address at the traditional commencement ceremony Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m. in the Decatur Civic Center.
Rodney Davis ’92, U.S. representative (R-Ill.) for the 13th Congressional District, is the speaker for the PACE/MBA commencement ceremony Saturday, May 18, at 7 p.m. in Kirkland Fine Arts Center.

The department of exercise science and sport and the School of Nursing are teaming up to host a screening of the film, “Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare” at Albert Taylor Theatre Monday, April 29, at 7 p.m.

Emily Schneider, senior flute and vocal performance double major from Mascoutah, Ill., won the 2013 Hollis Prize competition held on campus March 23. In recognition of this achievement, Schneider performed a recital on Friday, April 12, at Chicago’s Harold Washington Library Center.

For the sixth consecutive year, Millikin students took top awards at the 35th annual Model Illinois Government (MIG) Simulation at the state capitol complex in Springfield. Millikin students won first-and second-place awards in the moot court competition and were also recognized with individual awards.
Nearly 300 students from more than 20 colleges and universities throughout the state participated in the simulation.

OneVoice, Millikin’s award-winning vocal jazz ensemble, performs Wednesday, May 1, at 7 p.m. in Benjamin Godfrey Chapel at Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, Ill. The performance is free and open to the public. Following the concert, alumni and friends are invited to a reception in the Ringhausen Atrium hosted by the Millikin Club of St. Louis.
