Scovill Award 2008

Lauren Krage
English Education '09

Lauren Krage of Carol Stream, a junior English Secondary Education major, a James Millikin Scholar and she currently carries a 3.96 cumulative grade point average. She has been on the Dean's List or High Dean's List every semester in her time at Millikin. Krage was last year's recipient of the Prospective Teacher Award, and she has been actively involved as a writer, reporter and editor of the Decaturian student newspaper, winning five awards from the Illinois College Press Association. She currently holds the position of Co-Editor in Chief of the paper. Krage is currently studying in Thailand.

Krage, while on campus, serves as a peer tutor in the Writing Center. Her regular summer service includes being a Co-Director of a day camp run through her hometown church in Carol Stream.

In a supporting letter for Krage's nomination to the Scovill, one professor writes, "Lauren is a highly committed, talented student with a love for writing and research. She not only performs well in the classroom, but she has a passion for learning and getting the most out of her college experiences. Her intellectual maturity is matched by a strong sense of self, a raging independence and a large heart."
